Create the memories!

We had a hefty snow storm here in the Denver area over the weekend... the heavy wet Spring snow that comes "big" and melts quickly. Today it was 63 degrees. I'm reflecting on the special time spent with my daughter (nearly 21), building a snowman in the back yard. A BLAST!

There's something amazingly powerful about moments like these, whether it be time spent building a snow man (we named him Roboman) with a hard hat and a Colorado license plate, or going for a hike, fishing, skiing - you name it. It's the power of "memories". We all have them - the great memories that warm our hearts and encourage us when we need it most. I have a long list of memories... and my kids have always enjoyed hearing about my most strange or funny experiences and memories. We've tried to create memories - not just hope they happen - because memories fill the heart with gratitude, love, joy and peace.

I noticed my daughter getting bundled up to go out with the dogs (Iris and our guest, Riley) to play in the snow... I quickly realized that I had an opportunity (soon to me more rare) to have some fun in the snow with her and I took advantage of it. Then came the snow man - and the license plate, the charcoal and hard hat... and even later, the shared memory of seeing that Roboman had collapsed after partially melting the next day. It dawned on me later that we had created a memory - a special time that we will never forget. I hope I'm always ready and willing to take advantage of those opportunities when they appear.

April Snow in Colorado - Beautiful.

Snowing today! April snow. Wet snow. White snow. Beautiful snow! I think that fresh snow, covering the ground and everything else, has to be one of the most beautiful sights in God's creation. I enjoy waking in the morning to a snow covered world... seeing pure white snow on the roofs, trees, etc.

I'm thinking of a quote from the book of Isaiah...
Isaiah 1:18"Come now, let us reason together," says the LORD. "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool."

God's love has made it possible for me to enjoy that same promise in Christ Jesus. (Ephesians 1:7-8) In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace that he lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding.

Snow brings many blessings with it, but the reminder of the purity that only Christ can bring comes to my mind today.

Jabo's BBQ - Denver

I am a barbeque lover (henceforth referred to as BBQ). Just about anywhere I go, I look for the local BBQ restauraunts and stop whenever possible to enjoy (taste!) the meats. I have a Char-Griller Smoker at home, and I've been having a great time learning the secrets to smoking meats to perfection.

There's one thing that has become a father-son tradition over the last 7 or 8 years... eating at Jabo's BBQ, East of I-25, just off Arapahoe Rd. at Dayton (Southwest corner). Jabo's BBQ is the best BBQ and... the best music... in the Denver area.

Jabo's now has a sweet web site (not as sweet and hot as his sauces) that has all the info you need to know. There are 22 (yes, 22) delicious sauces to choose from... I found a my own favorites (I recommend hot mango, for one). As for my main course favorites... The Jabo Link and the Carolina (oh man!! My mouth is now watering as I type). The Carolina is a pulled pork sandwich topped with a generous pile of coleslaw - unbelievable flavor combination!

I'm writing about Jabo's today because my son, Austin, is picking me up for lunch... and you can guess where we're going. That's right... Jabo's BBQ.
